White Paper – Evolution of 5G Cyber Threats and Security Solutions
INSPIRE-5Gplus has published a white paper which addresses the current cybersecurity threat landscape and the latest achievements and security trends that will enable automated security processes in beyond 5G networks.
The white paper builds on the work already done in the context of INSPIRE-5Gplus Deliverable 2.2: Initial Report on Security Use Cases, Enablers and Mechanisms for Liability-aware Trustable Smart 5G Security, which analysed the status of the cybersecurity threat landscape in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic. Going beyond this deliverable, the white paper not only addresses the post-pandemic era but also the evolution of the 5G infrastructure in relation to security and how that may affect the future 6G ecosystem.
In addition, the white paper introduces the security enablers identified by INSPIRE-5Gplus, focusing on the impact and relevance that each of them will have on our daily lives. Relevant and understandable use cases illustrate their functions and benefits. These enablers, on which the INSPIRE-5Gplus architecture is based, include:
- Automation and Zero-Touch Management (ZSM)
- Trusted Execution Environment (TEE)
- Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) Techniques
- Cyber Threat Intelligence (CTI)
- Moving Target Defense (MTD)
- Distributed Ledger Technologies (DLT)
- Root-Cause Analysis (RCA)
- Security Service Level Agreements (SSLA)
- Policy Based Security Enforcement
The target audience of the white paper includes anyone interested in cybersecurity in the context of 5G networks and beyond. Accordingly, the paper addresses the challenges and tendencies in state-of-the-art security solutions and exemplifies the use of these solutions to daily and understandable threats.
