INSPIRE-5Gplus Network Slicing Architecture to be presented at OFC 2021
INSPIRE-5Gplus partner CTTC will present the updated INSPIRE-5Gplus results regarding the Blockchain-based architecture designed to manage End-to-End (E2E) Network Slices at OFC 2021.
OFC 2021 will be held as a virtual event from 6th to 11th June. The invited paper by INSPIRE-5Gplus with the title “ End-to-End Network Slice Stitching using Blockchain-based Peer-to-Peer Network Slice Managers and Transport SDN Controllers” will be presented in the Security and Quantum Networking session on Tuesday, 8 June, 4:15 AM to 4:30 AM PDT (UTC-07:00). Authors of the INSPIRE-5Gplus paper are P. Alemany, R. Vilalta, R. Muñoz, R. Casellas, and R. Martínez.
This paper presents a Blockchain-based Management and Orchestration (MANO) architecture to manage End-to-End Network Slice Deployment by stitching Network Slice Subnets (NSSs) in edge/cloud computing domains connected across transport network domains (both optical and packet-based) managed by different operators. Among other advantages, this new architecture aims to become a possible solution to avoid the central point of failure scenario by having a set of peers managing all the E2E actions instead of having a single entity in top. The Blockchain network is composed by a set of Network Slice Managers (NSMs) providing NSSs in the MEC/cloud computing domains, and transport Software-Defined Network (SDN) controllers in the transport domain providing connectivity services (CSs) to interconnect the NSS composing the E2E Network Slice. Finally, the paper presents a set of experimental results to demonstrate the functionality of this new architecture.
